Design process

Steps and thoughts I have while designing

Ideally I like to study deeply the main functionalities of what I am in charge of designing, understanding the environment around the service/product and the people involved in it.

If there are similar projects already trying to solve the same issue I like to take inspiration from them and see where they excel at solving the same problem and which limitations they have.

If there is no brand already set in place I try understanding what could be the expectations and the needs of the final audience and even think at some personas that would love using what I am going to design.

I would then proceed to wireframing, usually focusing on the mobile viewport, and when I am satisfied I create the wireframes for bigger screens.

After the wireframe I like to create different mockups from it, because this way I can study the reactions of the clients when seeing various outcomes.

Also they can better appreciate the work done so far having some visual references.

With wireframes and some starting mockups it’s time to showcase to the client and possibly to some people that actually will use the product.

Having received some feedback from the showcase I like to see where improvements can be made on what I have created so far and then I create high fidelity mockups from the work.

Depending on the size of the project I could do a working prototype, then have a new showcase to the client, they usually accept it or ask for a few changes.

Upon approval I will then give assistance to the developers for the implementation (or develop myself).

Consideration

Due to time constraints, small budgets of clients, and more, it is not often possible to do this complete design process, it depends on many factors.
